An acre is 4,840 square yards exactly, and it is one of only two units the Gujarat government's own land rate book actually prices in. This page converts it into everything else.

The acre is the unit the government actually uses

An acre is 4,840 square yards by statute, which makes it 43,560 square feet and 4,046.85642240 square metres exactly. None of that is a local convention. It is the same number in every district and every year.

It matters here because the Gujarat government's own agricultural land rate book prices land per acre and per square metre, and in nothing else. If you are reconciling a broker's quote against a government document, the acre is the unit both sides can agree on.

What this page will not tell you. The only rate book available to this site is the 2011 edition. Its own gaps note says its records must not be presented as a current jantri or as a market rate, so no rupee figure from it is printed anywhere on this site. What is printed is the unit the book prices in, which is a fact about the document rather than a claim about today's prices.

Forty gunthas make one acre, and at the 2,500 square yard bigha convention an acre is about 1.936 bigha. The first of those is exact. The second is only as reliable as the convention behind it.

All 1,431 pages of the Ahmedabad district book carry the word acre and all 1,431 carry Sq.Mts. The rate unit in the extracted dataset is INR per acre. No rupee figure from that 2011 edition is published on this site.
