What is actually built at Dholera

A 109 km four-lane expressway built from scratch by NHAI, with no crossings or traffic lights and room to widen to eight lanes. It is designed for 120 km/h. The drive from Ahmedabad is reported to have dropped from over two hours to roughly 40 minutes to one hour.

A new airport being built from scratch about 20 km from the centre of the region and 80 km from Ahmedabad. Phase one has a single 3,200 m runway rated Code 4E, the category that takes wide-body aircraft. It is being built by DIACL, a company owned by the Airports Authority of India at 51 percent, the Gujarat government at 33 percent and NICDC at 16 percent.

A Rs 91,000 crore fab built by Tata Electronics with PSMC of Taiwan. A fab is a semiconductor fabrication plant, the factory where chips are made. Capacity runs up to 50,000 silicon wafers a month on 300 mm wafers. It starts on the larger, more mature chip sizes, 90 nm and 55 nm first, and moves to 28 nm only later, so the node it opens on is 90 nm. The Union Cabinet approved it on 29 February 2024.

About 300 MW is generating today, including Tata Power's 300 MW plant spread over 1,320 acres, built with panels that turn to follow the sun on one axis. The sanctioned first phase under GPCL is 1,000 MW. The announced long-range target is 5,000 MW by around 2030.

About 134 km of double-track line linking Ahmedabad, the region, the airport and the Lothal heritage complex, cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs at roughly Rs 20,667 crore. It is billed as India's first semi-high-speed line built on Indian technology.
