Guntha
A guntha is 121 square yards and forty of them make an acre. This page converts it, and corrects a figure that conversion sites keep publishing wrong: a hectare is 98.842 gunthas, not 247.
Updated 11 August 2026. The definition is quoted from a government gazetteer. The conversions are exact arithmetic on it.
A guntha is 121 square yards, and forty make an acre
The definition comes from the old Bombay survey system that both Gujarat and Maharashtra inherited. A guntha is the square formed on one chain of eleven yards, so eleven times eleven is 121 square yards, and forty gunthas make one acre. From that, one guntha is 1,089 square feet and 101.17141056 square metres exactly.
Two honest caveats. The definition above is quoted from a Government of Maharashtra gazetteer, not a Gujarat one, because no Gujarat government document in this project's source set uses the word guntha at all. And the certificate on the Maharashtra gazetteer host does not validate in a browser, so the page was read over an unverified connection on 11 August 2026.
